After I found out the Patron Saint of Telecommunications is the Archangel Gabriel (since 1921), I made a little research about Internet. Is how I found that there is a Patron Saint of Internet (users) and his name is Saint Isidore of Seville (Sanctus Isidorus Hispalensis). [full profile], at least for the Catholic Church, because the Orthodox Church didn’t decided yet (between Saint John Chrysostom and Saint Feofan the Hermit, both from Russia).
Still, Isidore tried, and his attempt to catalogue human knowledge helped his nomination to become the patron saint of the Internet. The Vatican actually has quite an interest in the Internet; beside approving St. Isidore, their Pontifical Council for Social Communications has also issued documents about Internet ethics and now have a representative to “World Summit on the Information Society” meetings.
Why Isidore ? Because his twenty-volume Etymologies was an encyclopedic account of human knowledge, and he began to compile the Wikipedia of his time in the 600’s.
